I was watching Season One of Chappelle's Show on DVD a few weeks ago, and one of the sketches was a "Trading Spaces" parody called "Trading Spouses," in which a black father and a white father lived with each other's families for a month. So the other day watching "The Simpsons" there was an ad for an actual Fox sitcom with the same premise and even the same name. The sad thing is this isn't even the first case of Life Imitating Dave Chappelle. There's also the news that Chappelle is slated to play Rick James in an upcoming biopic. Wow.
Speaking of imitation, I heard the first single by rejected American Idol Kimberly Locke, and it sounded exactly--note for note, chord change for chord change, dynamic for dynamic--like former winner Kelly Clarkson's "Miss Independent." Which is more pathetic: record companies assuming that listeners will pony up sufficient cash for something they've practically already heard as long as it's out of the mouth of an American Idol, or the fact that I have heard songs by both Kelly Clarkson and Kimberly Locke?
