Resolutions? What resolutions?

Happy 2005. You know, I'm usually pretty good at avoiding those "Holy crap, where did the time go?!" moments, but they're inevitable when you set your iPod on "Shuffle" and a song like the Offspring's "Self Esteem" comes on, and you realize that that song was popular ten years ago. And then you look at the rest of your music collection and realize just how much of it came from the mid- to late '90s and very early '00s, and that if you don't watch it you'll be 40 and still listening to Weezer, except you'll only be able to hear them on the "Golden Oldies 102" station, and in penance you put on the latest from Franz Ferdinand and convince yourself you're still relevant.
I'm not making any unrealistic resolutions this year, as tempting as "Go to the gym every day, find a successful long-term relationship and play a show at the Glass House" might be. I do want to try and improve the world around me, starting with sending money for tsunami relief this week, but I'm not going to turn myself into Mother Teresa or anything.
I used to resolve to be less cynical, but the cynic in me was like, "Yeah, right. You'll stop being cynical when your college stops citing dry-erase board messages as proof that there's a secret organization of hate slowly consuming every hall and classroom on campus," so I pretty much gave that up.
