For those of you who might be wondering...

...what a wonderful person like myself is doing in college without a love life, I present to you the following conversation, held between myself and an unknown guy whom I found attractive:

SCENE: The coffee and tea table at a dining hall. RACHEL is pouring hot water into a mug when GUY approaches.

GUY: Excuse me.
(RACHEL steps aside to make room for GUY, who gets coffee. GUY then pours a creamer into his coffee while RACHEL, attempting to cast a covert glance in his direction, opens a tea package and places tea bag in mug of hot water.)
GUY (holding empty creamer container): Do you know if there's a trash can around here?
RACHEL: I don't know. I mean, there should be. (RACHEL absently tosses tea package into trash can, located conveniently to the left of the table.) I know there used to be one. Maybe it got moved.
GUY: Oh, so there's the trash can.
RACHEL: Oh, right. (Pause.) I just told you I didn't know where the trash can was while I was throwing something away, didn't I?
GUY: Yeah. (walks away with his coffee)

i have tears in my eyes from laughing right now. my life is also awkwardly suave, especially in the dining hall. ha.
on a more positive note, i don't think you'll ever forget where the trashcan is... (krys)

I'm really happy you guys were amused--seriously, I like the thought that something good can come out of my romantic failures...

The best part about it is i can totally see it happening: your body language, the look on his face when you ask him if you just did the thing that you, in fact, did just do, the toss, everything. Oh man. If this songwriting thing doesn't work out, you may find some space in the small-but-lucrative self-deprecating one-woman stage show field.
